Meralco dismisses allegations of raised electrical charges over residential customers

The Meralco Electric Co. clarified on Wednesday that it did not raised the electrical charges on residential customers to make for the losses from industrial clients.

The company did not intentionally increased the bills of its customers covering the past three months as the meter reading activities remain accurate and transparent, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga told GMA Super Radyo dzBB.

Zaladrriaga added that the collections from residential customers “cannot really compensate for the volume of commercial and industrial.”


“The volume’s different, so I don’t think that it’s a fair assessment of the situation,” Zaladrriaga said.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) already ordered Meralco to explain the raised billing statements, including the P47 fee when paying their bills through Meralco Online.

Meanwhile, Meralco assured its customers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic could settle their bills via four monthly payments.

“We hear the feedback loud and clear. We are very cognizant of the issues that are currently being hurled against us and we’re listening.”
