88Rising’s Asia Rising Forever celebrated by 2 million viewers
The Asia Rising Forever music festival was live on Twitter and Youtube, featuring artists from Malaysia, Thailand, China, Philippines, and more.
88Rising, a mass media company comprised of Asian music artists, aired their live stream at 21:00 EST, with Thailand’s Phum Viphurit as their starting musician singing his hit song “Lover Boy”. The online concert was greeted with a million viewers and is trending worldwide.
The concert also features artists Iñigo Pascual and British-Filipino Beabadoobee as the Philippines’ representative. It also features K-Pop artists Kang Daniel and Loona, and highlights 88Rising’s successful artists Rich Brian and NIKI of Indonesia.
The virtual concert is intended to represent Asian music in a time of xenophobia from COVID-19 and over-all underrepresentation of Asian music that is usually carried by mainstream artists from Japan, China, and South Korea’s K-Pop.
All the donations received from the live stream would be for the Asian American Advancing Justice (AAAJ), which aims to “advance the civil and human rights of Asian Americans and to build and promote a fair and equitable society for all”.
The live stream ended with 2M viewers, trending worldwide.
