#NoToABSCBNShutDown now trending on Twitter with more than 800k tweets
The hashtag #NoToABSCBNShutDown is now trending on Twitter accumulating more than 800,000 tweets. Since the NTC’s order of ‘cease and desist’ came, many users have been expressing their dismay to the shutdown of the TV network.
One of the concerns of many people is the fact that 11,000 Filipinos working under ABS-CBN would lose their job following the shutdown ordered by NTC. Many actors and actresses are saddened with the sudden closure of ABS-CBN. There are also some senators who are also against the non-renewal of the franchise of the network.
Together with the hashtag #NoToABSCBNShutDown are #DefendPressFreedom and #IStandWithABSCBN . The supporters are also encouraging the Filipino people to join the social media rally as part of defense of the press freedom.
ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise expired on Monday, May 4. Current president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, along with chairman Mark Lopez, gave their closing statements before the off-air of the TV network.
