Taika Waititi to officially direct, co-write for new ‘Star Wars’ theater film
New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi had been chosen to head the new Star Wars feature film for theaters.
Walt Disney Co announced on Monday that the award-winning director will direct and co-write the film alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
The details for the film and its release date has not yet been disclosed.
Waititi already worked with Disney before when he directed the first season finale of The Mandalorian in Disney+ and Thor: Raganarok in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also made a short cameo in Avengers: Endgame as the endearing stone-head Korg.
The director also recently won the Oscars for best adapted screenplay for the World War II set Jojo Rabbit.
Meamwhile, Disney announced that another Star Wars series is in works in Disney+, with Leslye Headland heading the project. The second season for The Mandalorian is already in post-production and set to premiere in October 2020.
