PCCI: Government should set clear guidelines for businesses in GCQ
Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Benedicto Yujuico seeks clear guidelines and rules on the partial resumption of malls and construction in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).
GCQ, unlike enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) that only supermarkets, pharmacies, and food deliveries are permitted, allows partial resumption of more businesses and public transportation.
Yujico said that when they look at GCQ guidelines, there are some questions that will arise.
They would like the government to expand the information a little bit and let the business know who will monitor, who will interpret, and who will regulate it.
Makati Business Club Chairman Edgar Chua said that extending the lockdown by 15 more days is the “prudent thing to do”, it gives businesses more time to prepare for the post-pandemic scenario.
In addition to what he said, businesses and the government should be very careful in re-opening the economy so as not “throwaway” the outcome achieved in the last 5 weeks.
The Philippines can learn from other countries that have started easing lockdown restrictions, Chua said.
